The problem has been twofold;  1) dirt gets inside and gums up the mechanism 2) the inexpensive freewheel unit is not precision enough and bearings are easily compromised.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p12\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eBoth of these problems plague the consistent engagement of the typical or average inexpensive freewheel.  Sometime it may engage at 15 degrees and sometime it may engage at 9 degrees.  A true precision freewheel will engage at precisely 10 degrees consistently.  Consistent engagement is necessary for proper training and conditioning and is MORE IMPORTANT than having more engagement points.
