Use the sighting mirror and notch to keep your eyes on the path ahead while confirming the correct bearing on the compass at the same time. Take advantage of the glow-in-the-dark bezel and directional markings to navigate in the dark and low-light environments, while using the LED light attached to the lanyard to help light the way, read your map, or 'charge' the luminous dial. And if you ever get lost or need to call attention to yourself or alert others, the included survival whistle will not let you down!
Before using the compass, make sure to adjust the declination setting for the angular distance between True North and Magnetic North based on where you will be traveling. This is easily done using the included flat screwdriver by following the enclosed instruction manual. Taking a bearing on your topographical map is also straightforward, using the baseplate with the built-in 3x magnifying lens and 6 measurement scales, including inches and millimeters. Additionally, the built-in clinometer allows you to measure the height of an object or landmark from the distance to the target and the angle between your position and the target.
