I wanted to tie an accurate match the hatch type fly for alewives. I studied photos for months trying to decide how to do that. Alewives show at least four different colors which explains why the are a couple groups of colors which make effective fish catchers.

I tried incorporating all 4 colors in a layered fly and it came out messy. Ultimately I developed an effective but tedious method to streak the colors instead of layering them so the fly comes out more like living fish.

This is a new addition to the Alewife series called Hammered Alewife Glow. The yellow in this fly is more subtle than the standard hammered Alewife.

The other flies in this series incorporate other colors visible in photos.
